Dr Nitin Nohria

Dr Nitin Nohria has been appointed as a non-executive director of Tata Sons. He is the George F Baker Professor of Administration and the dean of the faculty at Harvard Business School (HBS). He became the tenth dean of Harvard Business School on July 1, 2010. He previously served as co-chair of the Leadership Initiative, the senior associate dean of faculty development and the head of the organisational behaviour unit.

Dr Nohria has taught courses across Harvard Business School's MBA, PhD, and executive education programmes. His intellectual interests centre on human motivation, leadership, corporate transformation and accountability, and sustainable economic and human performance. He is the co-author or co-editor of 16 books. The most recent, Handbook of Leadership Theory and Practice, is a compendium dedicated to advancing research on leadership based on a colloquium he organised during HBS’s centennial celebrations. Dr Nohria is also the author of over 50 journal articles, book chapters, cases, working papers and notes. He has served as an advisor and consultant to several large and small companies in different parts of the world.

Prior to joining the HBS faculty in July 1988, Dr Nohria received his PhD in management from the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a BTech degree in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (which honoured him as a Distinguished Alumnus in 2007). He was a visiting faculty member at the London Business School in 1996.
