Tata in Middle East and North Africa (MENA)

The Middle East and North Africa, especially the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, represent a huge and expanding market for the Tata group.

The group has a significant footprint in the region with a presence of over four decades, 20 companies, $3 billion in revenue and over 10,000 employees.

The major companies in the region are Jaguar Land Rover, Voltas, Tata Communications, Tata Consultancy Services, Taj Group, Tata Consulting Engineers, Tata Global Beverages, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Titan Company, Tata International, International Shipping & Logistics and Tata Elxsi.

The other companies with operations in the region are Tata Technologies, Tata Interactive Systems, Tata Power, Tata Projects, Tata Housing, Tata Capital, mjunction, Tata Business Support Services and York.

  • The MENA region is the fourth largest and a growing market for Jaguar Land Rover. Range Rover is one of the most sought after 4-wheel drives in the region.
  • In addition to its wide presence in this area, Tata Consultancy Services has started an all-women call centre in collaboration with Saudi Aramco and GE in Saudi Arabia.
  • Voltas has done numerous projects in the mechanical, electrical and air-conditioning area in UAE, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia. It has had a presence in the MENA region, through its international operations division, for more than 45 years.
  • Tata Motors has been operating in the Middle East since 1971. It is a leader in the medium and heavy commercial vehicle bus segment (staff and school transportation) in GCC countries and is working to establish itself as a full range commercial vehicle player with the introduction of the Prima range of heavy commercial vehicles.
  • Tata Steel provides differentiated steel products and service solutions in the MENA region and is associated with several major projects in the region. The company has a joint venture named Tata Steel Ticaret AS in Turkey since 1987, which is the marketing arm for Tata Steel products in the country.
  • Tata Global Beverages has a presence in the tea business in various MENA countries with the flagship Tetley and Tata Tea brands. The company plans to enter the coffee and water segments in the region with innovative new products.
  • Titan Company’s watch business has been operating in the GCC region for 20 plus years. Present across 1,000 plus points of sale in the region, Titan is the leading brand in Oman and Bahrain.
  • International Shipping & Logistics (ISL) is a 100 percent subsidiary and the chartering arm of TM International Logistics, a subsidiary of Tata Steel. The Middle East is of critical importance to ISL, which gets a major part of its business from the region.
  • The Taj Group operates Taj Dubai in the prestigious Downtown and Burj Khalifa precinct.
  • Tata Communications has had a presence in the MENA region since 1996. It constructed the Tata Global Network (TGN)-Gulf and TGN-EA cable systems in partnership with several major telecommunications operators in the Middle East. These routes act as a gateway to the Tata Global Network connecting the region to key cities around the world.
  • Tata Consulting Engineers' subsidiary, TCE QSTP-LLC, based in Doha, Qatar, focuses on research related to nanotechnology, applied research pertaining to energy, water and material science, and project engineering services.
  • Tata International’s subsidiary, Tata International West Asia DMCC, based in Dubai, looks after operations in the Middle East and North Africa region and spearheads the diverse trading activities of the company.
  • The Tata products that are growing their markets in the Middle East include automobiles, Tetley Tea, Tata Tea and Titan.
