The Software Lab, launched in 1985, built tools to enable customers to move from mainframes to smaller Unix machines. These tools helped deliver a real-time securities settlement system for SEGA InterSettle, Switzerland. An AI group was also formed.

The Quartz Development Environment is created in 1990, with model-based specification and generation of large-scale business applications and systems. In 1995, EX, a simple accounting software is launched.

Quartz forms a part of TCS’ banking product suite BaNCS; Program-understanding tools, Cobol to C Converter, DB Model based applications, Rule-based engines, Y2K tools.

In 2001, the Computer Based Functional Literacy (CBFL) Program is piloted. Sujal, a low-cost portable water filter made from rice husk ash is launched in 2012.
