TRDCC is founded in 1981. In its first few years, its Process Engineering Lab builds: an award-winning TB testing kit; eco-friendly cements that use soda ash and recyclable waste and; Indo-US Software Technology collaborative projects.

The Software Lab, launched in 1985, built tools to enable customers to move from mainframes to smaller Unix machines. These tools helped deliver a real-time securities settlement system for SEGA InterSettle, Switzerland. An AI group was also formed.

The Quartz Development Environment is created in 1990, with model-based specification and generation of large-scale business applications and systems. In 1995, EX, a simple accounting software is launched.

Quartz forms a part of TCS’ banking product suite BaNCS; Program-understanding tools, Cobol to C Converter, DB Model based applications, Rule-based engines, Y2K tools.

TCS MasterCraft™ — a model-based code generator is launched.

In 2001, the Computer Based Functional Literacy (CBFL) Program is piloted. Sujal, a low-cost portable water filter made from rice husk ash is launched in 2012.

Research and innovation footprint expands with new centres. In 2006, the Corporate Technology Office is formed, TCS COIN™ is launched, and a Privacy Research collaboration with Stanford University is set up.

TCS formalises Innovation Forums and Innovation Days. Offerings in privacy, verification and validation, Enterprise Applications, green IT, Web 2.0, created to support business. TCS Research Scholar programme is set up. IP Rights Think Tank is created.

Growth in Frugal devices, Genomics, Metagenomics, Scheduling. MasterCraft™ tools are now a suite of products. ignio™, TCS’ cognitive automation product, launched as a new business line. TCS CodeVita launched as an annual coding competition.

New research areas in AI, Behavioural Sciences, High Performance Computing, Design Thinking and Robotics. TCS PACE™ is launched. Pipeline for Business: IoT, Digital Twins, ICME, Knowledge Mining Frameworks, Natural Language Processing and Bots, Energy Analytics.

Launch of Optumera Suite for retail; Optimal Trip Planner for Travel; APIs and Blockchain for BaNCS; ADD for LifeSciences. Agile Innovation centres set up. COVID initiatives include Drug Candidate Generation, Epidemiology Graph Modeling, Robotic Tele-operations.
