JRD Tata was an exceptional letter writer and exchanged over 40,000 letters during his lifetime. He corresponded regularly with his family, colleagues, associates and to contemporary leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, among others.

Students, too, from all over India often wrote to JRD, seeking his advice or even wanting to know more about him. In February 1989, a student from Pune reached out to him seeking advice on facing life’s problems. JRD, who was travelling abroad then, not only responded to the letter soon after he returned, but also apologised for the delay.

No wonder then that Mahatma Gandhi once said JRD was one of the most considerate and courteous of men, who would never leave a question or a letter, however unimportant, unanswered. Over his lifetime, as a result, JRD Tata wrote over 40,000 letters, often longhand in flourishing and unique handwriting.

The following truetype font "Jeh" is a tribute to this facet of his personality.
