In a thrilling season finale at the London e-Prix, Jaguar TCS Racing clinched its first World Championship win since 1991. Not only did the team win the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E Teams’ World Championship title in the tenth season of the championship, it also asserted its dominance in the sport, notching up a record-breaking 368 season points score.
Moreover, Jaguar TCS Racing drivers Mitch Evans (who came in third in the season’s final race) and Nick Cassidy (who took a superb pole position) both, had podium finishes at second and third place respectively, in the Drivers’ World Championship. Jaguar also won the newly created Manufacturer’s Trophy with 455 points.
James Barclay, Managing Director, JLR Motorsport and Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal, congratulated the team while citing Jaguar’s rich racing history, and how everyone was determined to add to that legacy when they started the brand’s Formula E programme in 2016. “To win the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E Teams’ World Championship — the pinnacle of electric racing — is fitting reward for everyone’s hard work and winning mindset. I want to extend my personal thanks to everyone who has been involved in our journey so far. This is a great moment for Jaguar TCS Racing and together we will enjoy this incredible achievement,” he said, while commiserating with Evans and Cassidy for narrowly missing the Drivers’ crown and acknowledging their incredible streak this season.
“I do still feel disappointed that neither Nick nor I could get the Drivers’ World Championship,” said Evans,” adding, “Securing the Teams’ World Championship is a fantastic achievement. I’m really happy for the team and everyone at Jaguar deserves this so much.” Cassidy added, “I think what we did this morning was unbelievable…I was just incredibly proud of how strong I was mentally.”
Next-gen technology
Jaguar TCS Racing won the Teams’ World Championship with the Jaguar I‑TYPE 6 — the world’s most technically advanced all‑electric single‑seat race car which powered Evans and Cassidy to a season‑total of four wins, 14 podiums, seven fastest laps and four pole positions.
The technology developed and proven on‑track by Jaguar TCS Racing supports the next generation of Jaguar all‑electric vehicles — part of the brand’s Reimagine strategy — thus making Formula E a key priority for JLR. As the premier all‑electric world championship, Formula E allows the team to test and develop new electric vehicle technologies in a high‑performance environment. It continues to be the test bed for the team’s Race to Innovate mission that will see Race to Road and Road to Race learnings that will help shape the electric future.
“Winning the Formula E Teams’ World Championship is a great sporting achievement and underlines JLR’s commitment to reimagine Jaguar as a pure‑electric, modern luxury brand,” said Chris Thorp, JLR Chief of Staff and Chairman, JLR Motorsport. “The performances the team have delivered on the track in winning the World Championship continue to inspire everyone at JLR, driving the reimagining of the Jaguar brand and the delivery of technical innovation to the next generation of Jaguar electric vehicles for the direct benefit of our customers.”
As an official manufacturer team in Formula E, Jaguar TCS Racing designs its own powertrain, which includes the motor, transmission, inverter, and rear suspension.
To control costs, the carbon fibre chassis and battery are common components and the same for all eleven teams. This allows the focus to be on developing efficient and lightweight electric vehicle powertrains which will improve the performance and range of future JLR electric vehicles.
TCS, a long‑standing strategic technology partner of JLR, leverages critical and emerging technology to help the race team accelerate their electrification journey, win races, and create a more sustainable future. TCS uses learnings from the racetrack to transform the mobility ecosystem. Acknowledging the team’s passion, pursuit of excellence and unwavering determination to succeed, K Krithivasan, CEO and Managing Director, TCS, said, “As Official Technology Partner of Jaguar TCS Racing, together we leveraged the power of technology to support in driving championship performances. TCS is proud of the work we are doing with Jaguar TCS Racing to realise the vision for a more sustainable world, both on and off the track.”
Beyond its all‑electric concept, Formula E is unique for its choice of venues. The 2024 championship was unleashed on existing tracks and temporary street circuits in the centre of major cities around the world, including Mexico City, Diriyah and Monaco, with new locations including Tokyo and Shanghai, and the season finale, which played out in London.
