August 2024 | Tata Motors
August 7, 2024, marks the stunning debut of the new Tata Curvv, India’s first SUV Coupé packed with disruptive innovations to maximise user comfort. The car combines the toughness and practicality inherent in SUVs with the elegance and sportiness of coupés to create a product that offers better fuel efficiency, sportier handling and more cargo space.
With the creation of the Tata Curvv, Tata Motors, India’s leading automotive manufacturer with a rich history of firsts in the field of automobile design, has once again pushed the boundaries of what a car can be.
Speaking at the unveiling, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said, “Tata Motors has pioneered the Indian SUV arena. What’s more is that we have repeatedly disrupted the category though innovative designs that deliver great road presence as well as enhanced functionality. The original Sierra, Safari, Nexon, Punch and Harrier are testament to this design led market leadership in SUVs. Taking this legacy forward and to further strengthen our SUV portfolio, we have once again broken the clutter in the effervescent and aspirational mid SUV category by introducing the Tata Curvv – India’s first SUV Coupé – a disruptive design which democratizes the Coupé body style in the premium categories, providing best in segment performance and never before seen practicality.”
True to its name, the Curvv rides against the trend of conventional boxy designs, presenting a strong aerodynamic theme that is highlighted across every contour of the vehicle. Elements like the raised ride height, tough cladding and dynamic proportions add to the appeal of the Curvv.
The sharply sloping roofline enables it to power ahead, thanks to improved wind resistance, with its promise of agility and smooth handling in the midst of the toughest road conditions. Features like the large wheels, high approach and departure angle, and increased ground clearance lend the car an aura of dynamism and dash.
The SUV coupé is available in shades, such as Virtual Sunrise, Pure Grey, Pristine White, Flame Red and Empowered Oxide for the electric variant and Gold Essence for the ICE variants. Designed for every powertrain preference, the Curvv will first be available in the electric variant, and then shortly thereafter in the ICE (petrol and diesel) variants. The ICE version comes with an option of a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine, with automatic and manual transmissions. It also comes with an indigenously developed new petrol engine, the Hyperion Gasoline Direct Injection engine.
The EV comes with a single, electric motor and two battery pack options at 45kWh and 55kWh, suitable for driving as far as 502 km and 585 km respectively on a full charge. The company has also launched the Tata.ev Charge Point Aggregator, which integrates a map of the network of over 9000 charging points with live status availability into the iRA.ev connected car app. The fast-charging capability enables a top-up of 150 km in just 15 minutes, and, brace yourself for this, an acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in just 8.6 seconds.
The appeal of the car is sweetened thanks to Tata Motors’ legacy of safety which has been translated into a number of safety features such as Advanced driver-assistance systems, all tested to meet the strictest safety norms.
Test drivers are already raving about the Curvv’s dashing looks and powerful on-road performance, and the bonanza of smart features that the car has been equipped with. These include advanced infotainment and superior connected car technology. There’s also an LED light bar and stacked LED headlamps. Drivers of the Curvv are in for a treat, with a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, a digital dashboard, phygital control panel, mood lighting and a large central touchscreen.
The voice assisted panoramic sunroof allows natural light to flood into the interior of the Curvv, and gives the passengers a sense of freedom. Clever use of space has enabled a spacious, uncluttered cabin, unheard of in coupés, and an impressive and increased boot space of 500 L. Plus, there’s a provision for extra space of 11.6 litres in the frunk of the EV. The car’s premium appeal is reinforced through a bold selection of colours, materials and finishes and its best-in-class technologies and features.
